Humour is very contagious.
We naturally gravitate towards people who make us feel good. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like being around someone who’s grumpy all the time.
That’s why it’s so important to have a good sense of humour.
You don’t need to be a comedian to be a funnier person. It’s just something you want to incorporate every now and then when you’re in conversation.
Here are my best tips to help you improve your sense of humour.
Clear Your Head
It’s hard to be funny if you have a negative outlook in life.
I’ve said it so many times but I’ll say it again because it’s worth repeating. You need to have a daily practice of meditation and gratitude.
Taking time to sit with yourself allows you to control your thoughts. Also, when you count your blessings, you’ll realize that there’s always something to be thankful for.
No matter what situation you’re in, nothing is ever as bad as they may seem.
Be A Student
Just like anything, telling good jokes is a learnable skill.
Spend sometime watching comedy shows and stand up routines.
Observe their delivery and timing. When a joke makes you laugh, ask yourself why.
Note them down and find ways to make it your own.
State The Obvious
Have you noticed that most good jokes are based on a bitter truth?
It’s the stuff that people think about but doesn’t dare to talk about.
This requires a high degree of social intelligence. You have to be aware of your surroundings and where the line is to pull this off.
Have you ever met someone who’s already laughing as they’re telling a joke?
Even though it wasn’t funny, you start to laugh with them as well because they’re so into it.
Focus on being self-amused instead of looking for a reaction from other people.
If you think it’s funny, other people will think it’s funny as well.
Don’t Make It A Big Deal
Let’s be honest. Not all your jokes are going to land.
If you want to develop your sense of humour, you have to take risks.
When you tell a bad joke, don’t make a big deal out of it. Shrug it off and move on.
Poke Fun At Yourself
Life can be hard sometimes. So don’t take it too seriously.
When you can make fun of yourself, it shows that you’re comfortable with who you are.
It shows vulnerability but not insecurity.
I hope you’ve enjoyed learning this as much as I’ve enjoyed writing this for you.
