Whether you like it or not, we all make assumptions about people right away.
When you see a man with a tailored navy suit, you probably think he’s successful, where as someone who’s wearing all black with tattoos can give off a heavy metal vibe.
If there’s one thing I can tell you, it’s this: you need to dress for the type of people you want to attract.
Fortunately, having great style is not as complicated as you may think. If you know what you’re doing, it also doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money as well.
I’ve styled dozens and dozens of guys in the past and I noticed something in common. Most of them want to dress well except they don’t know how.
They’re unsure who to follow and how to get started.
Here are some dirty little tricks to improve your style even if you hate shopping.
Make A List
With all the distractions at the mall, it’s easy to go home with bags of clothes you didn’t need in the first place.
Always work backwards. Determine what kind of look you’re going for, write out everything you need and stick to it.
It Has To Fit
Fit has to be the most important component of style. It doesn’t matter what brand you’re wearing. If it doesn’t fit, it looks terrible.
Most guys that I’ve worked with have shirts, pants and even shoes that are way too big for them.
There are some key measurements that you need to know before you go shopping. Take a tape measure and note your neck size, chest size, pant size and shoe size.
Keep It Clean
This may sound obvious, but it’s worth mentioning. Wash your clothes regularly, especially if it’s a light colour.
If it’s stained and it starts to smell, it’s time to get it cleaned.
Buying items that are seasonal have a short life span. It’s a waste of money in the long-run.
Stick with colours that are easy to match and always in style. You can’t go wrong with black, blue, khaki, white and grey.
Know When To Invest
Not everything in your wardrobe has to be expensive. But how do you know which one to invest in?
A good rule of thumb to follow is this: the price of a clothing item is proportional to how often you use it.
If you’re going to wear it a lot, don’t be afraid to spend a little bit more to pay for quality.
Shoes, jeans, jackets and bags are a few examples.
Follow these rules and you’ll definitely develop a head-turning appearance even if you’re an average-looking guy.
I hope you’ve enjoyed learning this as much as I’ve enjoyed writing this for you.
