My dad was right.
He taught me a very important lesson at a very young age. In life, it’s not just what you know, it’s who you know.
Learning how to network with influential people is a must. They have access to important relationships, information and resources that you don’t have.
If you want to have more options in your life, you need to know how to connect with people; more importantly, the right people.
Here’s how to get started.
Do Your Homework
Most influencers nowadays have some sort of presence online. Look them up and get to know them on a personal level.
Visit their website, read their book and watch their interviews. That way, you are a lot more prepared to reach out to them in a way that sets you apart.
If you did your homework in advanced, this one should be fairly easy. You can be more thoughtful with your outreach instead of being generic.
Pick something specific you can relate with.
Maybe both of you are from the same hometown. Or maybe both of you really enjoy playing a specific sport. It could be even your taste in music or your favourite food.
Choose something that stands out to you and go from there.
Share Your Results
Talk is cheap. Those people who walk the walk are the ones who get noticed.
I want to share with you one of the best ways I know to grab the attention of an influencer: take their advice, put it into action and let them know about your results.
Doesn’t it feel good when you know people listen to what you have to say? Not only will influencers notice you, they will want to help you more and connect you to their network too.
Help Them Out
It’s rare to find an influential person who’s well-rounded. Because they’ve invested all their time mastering their craft, there’s a good chance they’ve neglected other areas of their lives.
They might be out of shape, struggling in relationships or poorly dressed. Maybe all of the above.
That’s when you come into the picture. Helping them solve one of their pressing problems is a great way to be memorable.
Influential people are obviously popular.
They have fans that adore them and look up to them. Because they have something that others don’t, people always want to get something from them.
Don’t be like that. Treat them like a regular person and connect with them on a deeper level.
Be interested on who they are as a person not just on their accomplishments.
I hope you’ve enjoyed learning this as much as I’ve enjoyed writing this for you.
