When you meet someone for the first time, you make assumptions about that person right away based on their appearance.
And in a matter of seconds, you have decided whether you like this person or not.
First impressions really do make a difference. The way you dress has a huge influence on your overall presence.
Moreover, your style speaks volumes about who you are as a person and what you value.
Other people will treat you based on their perception of you. Fortunately, dressing well is not as complicated as you may think.
As a man, it really doesn’t take much to have great style. Just make sure you nail the basics and fundamentals.
Here are my best style secrets that will make your stand out from the crowd.
Convey Your Best Qualities
If someone were to see you and not have the chance to have a conversation with you, what are things you would want them to say?
While you can’t do anything about your height or your skin colour, your style is always something you can improve on. It’s the great equalizer because it levels the playing field for every guy who’s willing to put in the effort.
Here are some example:
- A collection of interesting bracelets from the places you’ve been to convey traveling is important to you.
- A well-fitting button up and a pair of slim, dark denim say you take yourself seriously, but not all the time.
- Scuff marks on your jeans and a worn out pair of leather boots express you’re rugged and adventurous.
You see what I mean? Now, it’s your turn.
Make a list of things that you really value. Create your personal code. Define them and find creative ways to express them when you put together your outfit.
Emulate Then Innovate
Think of someone who’s style you really identify with. It could be a celebrity, an artist or just someone you know. Ask yourself why you like their style?
Pick out items of clothing that all of them seem to wear. Make a list of what they are and begin to build your wardrobe based on that.
Follow the 80/20 rule. Emulate 80% of what they’re wearing and then innovate your style with the last 20%.
Dress With Intention
If you want to attract high-quality people in your life, then you have to look like one of them. Success attracts success.
Get a feel for how people are responding to your appearance. Use it as feedback and make adjustments accordingly.
When in doubt, simpler is always better. Why go through all this trouble? Because your appearance is the fastest way to communicate to others what you’re all about.
Your style introduces you before you speak.
Before you leave your house next time, think about what your image says about you. It sucks that you only have a few seconds but if you know how you’re presenting yourself, that’s all the time you need.
