To stop getting ignored in social situations, you need to learn how to speak louder and clearer.
Otherwise, people won’t be able to hear what you’re saying.
Today, I’m about to share with you the exact same advice that I teach to our clients in our social skills coaching program.
What You'll Learn In This Post
Why Do I Struggle To Speak Loudly?
If you’re wondering why you can’t speak loudly, it’s because there’s not enough air that’s coming out of your mouth when you share something.
That’s why you have to learn how to breathe properly.
From Shy To Social
Discover proven steps to approach and talk to anybody no matter how shy you are.
To help you with this, put your hands on your stomach and fill it up with air.
This will teach you to speak from your diaphragm instead of your chest.
By doing so, you’ll be able to project your voice and make it sound more powerful.
Also, try to vary your tonality the next time you share something.
You’ll bore people to death if you have a monotonous voice.
If you tend to be quiet and reserved, doing these things might feel odd at first.
But if you keep at it, you’ll improve the way you communicate eventually.
You’ll come across as a captivating speaker and you’ll be able to hold people’s attention much better.
Why Do I Speak So Unclear?
If you’re wondering why you speak so unclear, it’s because you mumble a lot.
If you often get asked to repeat what you just said, then you know what I’m talking about.
If this keeps happening, it can make you feel like there’s something wrong with you.
You’ll have lower self-esteem which can make you act shy and timid when you’re around people.
If you want to learn how to speak louder and clearer, you need to be able to articulate yourself better.
To help you with this, you have to talk slower and finish your words.
Make an effort to enunciate the consonants when you share something as well.
By doing these things, you’ll come across as more confident during your interactions.
People will listen to what you have to say and they’ll take you a lot more seriously.
This will help you develop a stronger presence which will make you more memorable in social situations.
How Can I Talk More Clear And Loud?
1. Improve Your Posture
Personally, I’ve worked with a lot of engineers, programmers, and developers in the past.
Because they sit in front of the computer all day, most of them tend to have hunched postures.
If you want to figure out how to speak louder and clearer, you need to lengthen and open up the front of your body.
When you pull your shoulders back and stand up straight, you create more space for air to come in.
This will help you have a stronger voice without having to put in too much effort.
To help you implement this, remember to have an open body language.
By doing so, you’ll feel more confident which will help you sound more authoritative the next time you share something.
2. Challenge Your Assumptions
As an immigrant, I was raised in a culture where being too vocal and loud are both frowned upon.
I was conditioned to speak softly to avoid appearing brash to others.
That’s why I struggled to put myself out there when my family and I moved to Canada when I was 17.
To make things worse, I barely spoke English back then and I was extremely shy as well.
If you can relate to that and you want to know how to speak louder and clearer, you have to challenge your assumptions.
If not, then you’ll always worry about what people think of you which can make you feel nervous.
Check out this video if you want to know how to be socially attractive if you have anxiety.
That’s why you need to be able to manage your expectations.
The reality is, nobody is paying as much attention to you as you might assume.
Everyone is too focused on themselves the same way that you are as well.
Even if you make a mistake, I can assure you that most people would’ve forgotten about the incident in just a few hours.
By keeping this perspective in mind, you’ll learn how to be less self-conscious in any social situation.
This will help you figure out how to relax around people and you’ll be able to act like yourself more.
3. Learn To Loosen Up
Sound will have a difficult time moving when your body is always tense.
If you wondering how to speak louder and clearer, you need to learn how to loosen up and relax.
By doing so, more sound will come out of your mouth because it can travel easier.
One of the best ways to do this is to make yourself yawn to warm up your throat.
Doing so will remove any tension in your jaw as well.
I also recommend you adopt a mindfulness practice.
This is especially a good thing to do if you’re someone who ruminates a lot.
By meditating and journaling regularly, you’ll be able to control the way you think.
This will help you manage your emotions better, especially during stressful moments.
Not to mention, you’ll appear more charismatic during your interactions when you’re able to stay cool, calm, and collected.
4. Avoid Using Filler Words
Most people who struggle socially use a lot of filler words when they speak.
Saying“um,” “like,” “ah,” and “you know” during your conversation is very distracting.
That’s why you’ll want to avoid them at all costs.
Whoever’s listening to you will find it hard to focus on what you’re saying.
This usually happens when you’re not sure how to respond to something.
If this sounds like you, then you need to be able to sit with the silence.
Believe it or not, it’s totally normal to have quiet moments during your interactions.
You don’t need to be so quick to respond when someone asks you a question.
If you can’t think of what to say, feel free to take a moment to pause and reflect.
That way, you can gather your thoughts better.
This will help you give a more thoughtful response and add value during your interactions.
5. Validate Yourself
If you don’t believe that what you have to say is important, then you’ll always remain quiet and just keep to yourself.
If you want to know how to speak louder and clearer, you need to be able to validate yourself.
If not, then you’ll constantly feel hesitant and experience self-doubt.
You’ll be too afraid of being judged by others which will prevent you from taking any risks.
To fix this issue, you need to raise your self-esteem and learn how to like yourself.
Check out this podcast interview with Anita Kozlowski, Founder of Live With Power Training Institute, where she talks about how to overcome mental barriers in communication.
To help you with this, stop beating yourself mentally by constantly remembering your past mistakes and failures.
Instead, make an effort to think more of your positive traits and all your previous accomplishments.
If you do this long enough, you’ll realize that you’re actually a pretty awesome person.
If you keep this up, you’ll feel good about who you are and you’ll improve your self-image.
As a result, you’ll be less intimidated by others and you’ll figure out how to be more outspoken in any situation.
6. Write Things Down
It’s totally normal to feel nervous when you’re unprepared.
If you want to learn how to speak louder and clearer, take the time to think of what you want to say.
To help you communicate more effectively, I encourage you to put your thoughts on paper.
When you can see whatever you’re thinking about, you’ll be able to organize your ideas much better.
This will help you make the necessary adjustments so you can communicate more effectively with others.
If you’re willing to, I also recommend you record yourself telling a story.
By doing so, you’ll be able to observe your body language and hear how you sound.
Again, the more you prepare, the more confident you’ll feel during your interactions.
You’ll prevent your mind from going blank which will help you figure out how to be more talkative with anybody.
7. Get Some Feedback
If you want to know how to speak louder and clearer, you need to be aware of how you’re coming across to others.
That’s why it’s important that you get some feedback.
One of the best ways to do this is to role-play what you want to say with someone that you trust.
And then, ask them what they think you did well and what you need to work on.
Just make sure you don’t take anything personally.
Use the information they give you as an opportunity to learn how to get better at conversation.
But if you want to remove any of the guesswork, consider working with a social skills coach.
That way, you’ll get results much faster.

For example, you can make small talk with the barista when you get your coffee.
Feel free to chit-chat with the cashier at the grocery store.

By taking action consistently, you’ll prove to yourself that you can actually do this.
